Rebecca “Charlie” Charlene Hiland passed away peacefully on the evening of Wednesday, January 14, 2026, due to complications related to Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
Charlie was born on March 25, 1952 to the late Chalmer R. Hiland and Clara “Betty” Ball. She grew up alongside her sister, Elaine Johnson, and from an early age showed the warmth and openness that would define her life. Charlie spent many years in Jamestown, Indiana, before later making her home in Indianapolis with her beloved companion, Tracy. The two shared an unbreakable bond and were inseparable for many years. As Charlie’s MS progressed, Tracy devotedly cared for her, offering love, strength, and companionship through every stage of her journey.
Charlie had an extraordinary gift for connection. She never met a stranger, greeted everyone with a kind smile, and carried a big heart that made people feel instantly welcome. Her circle of love was wide—made up of friends, family, and chosen family—and she cherished each and every one of you deeply.
Charlie will be remembered for her kindness, her gentle spirit, and the love she freely gave to those around her. Her presence left a lasting mark on all who knew her.
Please keep an eye on Facebook, where details for Charlie’s Celebration of Life will be shared later this spring.
With love to you all.
