Leonard Douglas Wise

Leonard Douglas Wise, 76, of Lafayette, passed away at home Thursday, February 22, 2024. He was born August 11, 1947, in Valparaiso, IN, the son of, the late, George W. Sr. and Donna A. Wise.  He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, George W. Wise Jr. He is survived by wife, Susan Wise of Lafayette, daughters, Kimberly Betschart of Yakima, WA and Kristina Felton of Lafayette, IN, grandchildren, Justin Wise of Yakima, WA and Trever Wise of San Diego, CA, great-grandchild, River Wise of San Diego, CA, brothers, Alan Wise of Danville, IN, Wayne Wise of Bellevue, NE, sisters, Kathy David of Farmington, MO and Louann Williams of Farmington, MO

Leonard’s hobbies include: woodworking, golfing, fishing, camping, riding motorcycles and playing his bass guitar. He held 40 years of welding experience throughout his career and retired from the Bureau of Reclamation as a Shop Foreman. More than anything else, he was happily married for 54 years and devoted to family.

As an industrious individual, Leonard spent his teenage years working at Bethlehem Steel. Following his early work years, Leonard was drafted into the Army at the age of twenty, where he served as a UH-1 Helicopter Repairman during the Vietnam War. While enlisted in the Army, Leonard met his wife (Susan) of 54 years on January 1, 1970.

Following his military career, Leonard and his family relocated to Yakima, WA where he established a 30+ year career with the Bureau of Reclamation and a home for his family to grow in.

After retiring from the Bureau, Leonard and his family moved to Lafayette, IN, where he settled in for his retirement with his wife Susan, unwavering love for God, and woodworking.

Visitation will be Tuesday, February 27, 2024 from 4-5pm at Faith Church East, 5526 IN-26 Bldg. 1, Lafayette, IN 47905 with military honors at 5 pm and Celebration of Life service thereafter.
