Leisha “Gail” Phillippi, 65, of Brookston, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at Franciscian Health Hospital in Lafayette, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 8, 1960 in Lafayette, to the late Joseph & Theresa Johnson.
A 1979 graduate of McCutcheon High School, Gail went on to build a life grounded in faith, creativity, and deep devotion to her family. She married the love of her life, Rodney Phillippi, on June 27, 1981, and together they shared 44 wonderful years of marriage.
Gail’s faith was an important part of her life. Over the years, she was a member of several church communities, including the Pentecostal Church of God, Emmanuel Bible Church, First Assembly of God, River Valley Christian Church, and Parkview Christian Church. Her kind heart and gentle spirit touched everyone she met.
She spent 11 years working for Target in both Indiana and Illinois, where she served as a cashier. Known for her warm smile and caring nature, Gail made every customer feel welcome.
A talented artist, Gail found joy in painting, working with charcoal, and experimenting with various mediums. She was also a passionate reader—her home filled with a cherished library of more than seven thousand books. Above all, she adored her family and had a special place in her heart for her beloved cats, who brought her endless comfort and companionship through the years.
Gail is survived by her devoted husband, Rodney; their three sons: Joshua (Heather) Phillippi, Samuel Phillippi, and Matthew Phillipp; her siblings: Joe Johnson and Christine Holloway; and her treasured grandchildren, Cassidy, Abigail, and Anastasia.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2025, from 1-3pm (EST), at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home in Brookston, where family and friends will gather to honor her memory and the love she shared so freely.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gail’s memory to the National Kidney Foundation or the Well Spouse Association.
