James Anthony Campbell, better known to many as Tony McWhitey, of Rossville and Lafayette, Indiana, passed away on September 30, 2025, at the age of 38, due to complications of cirrhosis of the liver.
Born on October 7, 1986, Tony was a one-of-a-kind spirit with a heart of gold. Intelligent, witty, and full of humor, he was often the most entertaining person in the room. Known for his playful personality, love of movie references, and boundless creativity, Tony lit up every space he entered.
Tony was a gifted artist whose talents spanned tattooing, drawing, and writing. He also had a deep love for music—especially the music of Prince—and enjoyed exploring history and researching new ideas. A proud Rossville school alumnus, he held a special place in his heart for his favorite teacher, Mrs. Beverly Ploughe.
He is survived by his three beloved children, Atreyu James, Nikko Jane, and Charlie Elaine mother, Susie Williams sisters, Jennifer Campbell and Maranda Campbell, nieces, Darryn Martinez and Audrey Tyler, nephews, Keyshaun Campbell and Drake Joslin, great-nephew, Adrian VanGaasbeck, uncle, Leroy Watts and many cousins, including Amber Watts. He also leaves behind countless friends who cherished his companionship.
Tony was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mildred Hayes, nephew, Deshaun Wilburn and aunt, Sandra Watts.
Tony’s memory will live on through the laughter, love, and creativity he shared so freely with all who knew him.
