Barbara Briggs

Barbara Ann “Barb” Briggs, age 88, of Lafayette, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2025, at IU Health Arnett.Born on November 12, 1936, to Wellington and Patricia Carpenter, Barb was a proud 1954 graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School.

Barb built a fulfilling career in the administrative field, working at both St. Elizabeth Hospital and the Area IV Agency before retiring. Her professionalism and kindness left a lasting impression on colleagues and friends alike.

Outside of work, Barb embraced life with enthusiasm and creativity. She could often be found bowling with friends, playing cards, scrapbooking, taking photos, traveling, or enjoying a good movie. Most of all, she cherished time spent with her family and the many loved ones who enriched her life.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Thomas E. Carpenter.

Barb’s loving spirit lives on through her children, Lynda (Bill) Ramsey of Kissimmee, FL; Phillip (Sheryl) Briggs of Avon, IN; Patrick Briggs of Lafayette, IN; and Teresa Briggs of Lafayette, IN. She was a proud grandmother to Ben Briggs of Orlando, FL; Justin Ramsey of Kissimmee, FL; Nate Briggs of Brownsburg, IN; Emily Ramsey of Toledo, OH; Samuel Briggs of O'Fallon, MO; Daniel (Kristen) Briggs of West Lafayette, IN; Aidan Briggs of Brownsburg, IN; and Lilly Briggs of Lafayette, IN. She was also blessed with two great-granddaughters, Ivy and Eloise Briggs,.

At Barb’s request, a private family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to the Area IV Agency on Aging and Community Action or to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
